Fäboden.
A little house in the middle of nowhere.
No running water, no electricity, no road access.
A place of pause, simplicity and vastness for the mind.
The starting point of my subconsciousness.
Nisse and Lars bought Fäboden, or Hunsnäs as they call it, in their early twenties, gathering their savings to have a dream of their own. My first visit in 2015 has led to ten plus years of documenting peoples relationship to themselves and nature here.
In my artistic practice I’m focusing on rediscovering the human body as a neutral gender fluid vessel that is allowed to contain every kind of emotional state and thought. Fäboden is a very interesting place to deepen this visual research: Swedish people in their summer habitat, introspective, melancholic, natural and liberated from the city.
“I am rooted, but I flow.”
~ Virginia Woolf
There’s a feeling of time being reversed when you enter the little house, reversed and slowed down. Mobile phones being put in a drawer; walking over the fields to get to a well with fresh water; sitting by a candle lit table as the sun goes down; washing yourself clean in the lake in the morning. This place let’s people ease into something everlasting. Something symbiotic and honest. Being here creates a firm, grounded sense of self with the ability to embrace the unpredictable nature of living life. I am rooted but I flow.

watch them being rinsed clean.
